Resource scheduling
Resource scheduling answers the first of the two planning questions: who is doing what, and when.
The work arrives as discrete pieces, a service call, a delivery, a repair, and each one needs a resourceResourceAn entity that can carry out work - a person, vehicle, tool, or room - that you schedule on the planning board. with the right skills, near enough to get there, with a gap in their day. There are many pieces, they keep coming, and the plan made on Monday looks different by Tuesday afternoon. The unit that matters is the appointmentAppointmentA task scheduled to a resource for a specific period - the scheduled instance you see on the planning board.: this resource, this taskTaskA unit of work that belongs to a job. It appears in the open task list until it is scheduled to a resource., this slot.
The planning boardPlanning boardThe main graphical scheduling surface where dispatchers drag tasks onto resources across a timeline. is the surface for that. Around it sit the components that feed it and answer the questions a planner asks while filling it: the open tasks waiting to be planned, the map that says who is near, the capacityCapacityThe amount of working time a resource has available in a given period, used to spot over- and under-planning. view that says who has room, and the Gantt chart for work that has an order to it.
How the pages are organizedβ
Customize your workspace comes first because it is where every planner starts: a profileProfileA saved snapshot of a userβs planning board configuration, including the chosen layout and view options. arranges the components into a workspace, a layoutLayoutA saved arrangement of the planning board - visible resources, columns, and settings - that can be reused. remembers what each one looks like, and dock panels let you shape the canvas to the way you work. Get the screen right once and it comes back that way every morning.
The Components pages then describe each building block on its own: what it shows, what it is for, and what you can do in it. Start with the introduction, which explains how they connect to each other, and then read the page for the component in front of you.
